The Mind by Peter Marinelli
(It makes a wonderful servant but a terrible master)
In the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous it states, that when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives that our thought life is placed on a much higher plane. This higher plane is God consciousness and we are to keep a conscious contact with God not an unconscious contact with God.
The work that precedes this transformation is to rid the sufferer of self and all of its manifestations.
And where do these manifestations of self arise? From the mind. In a manner of speaking, as we transform from living along the lines of human consciousness to God consciousness, it’s as if we are given a new mind, a God inspired mind, living as the big book refers to as the fourth dimension of existence beyond out obsessions, compulsions and emotions.
Over and over the big book talks about the troubles this thinking mind will create.
Here are some examples.
The main problem we are told is in the mind
It’s the power of the mind that changes us although we think we change our mind
We are told that will power practically becomes nonexistent also from the mind
We are told that we are without defense against the first drink
That the almost certain consequences that follow even talking a glass of beer don’t crowd into my mind to deter me
When this sort of thinking is fully established in an individual with alcoholic tendencies….we are beyond human aid. Carl Young tells Rolland Hazzard he has the mind of a chronic alcoholic
Idea attitudes and emotions which were once the guiding forces of the live of these men
Suddenly the thought crossed my mind that if I were to out an ounce of whiskey it couldn’t hurt me on a full stomach
We have all hear the term the all action is born n thought.
So then the question is why without experiencing a spiritual awakening would I ever listen to my mind.
I have come to find out through experience that we can’t solve a problem on the same level of consciousness that created it in the first place.
Yet how often do we return to the mind for a solution only creating more problems than previously existed. We are worshipers of our own mind and intellect and look at this loving infinite Power called God with skepticism and doubt and rarely give God an opportunity to work.
This attitude of contempt prior to investigation must be abandoned.
Conversely when we are in a place of desperation and are willing to do anything to change and may even forced to turn back to God, we quickly find out that God will remedy any obscurities that existed about life.
We can finally rest easy in loving arms of our Creator.
We now get to use our mind rather than it using us.
