FHE Health has been serving its community for nearly two decades. During that time, we’ve earned a reputation for being a trusted treatment provider, primarily because our programs have made a lasting, positive impact on countless lives— patients and families included, who come to us from all around the country and from all walks of life.
In this section, you’ll hear from former patients, in their own words, about how rehab at our facility changed their lives. Discover how our alumni rate their experience at FHE Health and its life-changing impact, via these video testimonials:
A big part of my story is that two months before I got sober, my father died unexpectedly from a heart attack— so I had two months of being the most miserable I had ever been. I was hopeless, but I knew I didn’t want to die. For the first time, I thought, “I want to live and honor who my father raised me to be.” My heart today is absolutely full. I am happier than I’ve ever been and it blows me away every day. It’s almost like I’m dreaming sometimes: the relationship with my mother is now everything I wanted it to be; and she trusts me finally, which is huge. And for me to be able to be there for her and help her and perhaps make her day a little easier is the best gift I’ve got in recovery.Dan
[The staff at FHE Health] tried to help like any family would. My parents tried to help me, but I definitely broke their hearts and I didn’t show up for them when I was supposed to. It’s hard to think about because all they wanted was for me to do well. I think they were sad but relieved when I went to FHE Health. They knew where I was, and that I was in good hands … even though I didn’t know what to expect or what I was doing with my life, I felt safe at FHE Health, and I think that’s one of the best things you can get from coming to a place like this. It did feel like home. It did feel safe, and I felt comfortable. I couldn’t leave. I stuck around. I took their suggestions to live in a sober-living facility after I discharged from here, and I stayed as close as possible/Meghan
There were times I wanted to die. There were times I would write in my journal, screaming down the whole page, “I know I’m an addict; I don’t want to live this way anymore.” I knew I had a problem. I’ve been sober now for four-and-a-half years. Being a mother now— it’s incredible. FHE Health was the only treatment facility I went to. It was the first and only time I’ve tried to get sober. And I can’t see my life any other way.Heather
Our former patients like to stay in touch with us. Usually, they do so by sending us “thank you” notes letting us know how well they’re doing and singing the praises of FHE Health. For the sake of brevity and patient confidentiality, we could not post these letters here; but the themes that regularly emerge from these letters speak to the quality of treatment at FHE Health and its positive long-term outcomes.
Some alumni exclaim that treatment at FHE Health was the best thing they ever did. Others write to thank FHE Health that today they are three years clean, five years clean, six years clean, ten years clean, etc. Equally moving to hear are the details of the new lives our former patients report: a now happy and successful, sober marriage; restored relationships with formally estranged family members; and, becoming a responsible breadwinner and caring for a child while going back to school. These are just some of the highlights from alumni letters that demonstrate the positive long-term impact of our treatment programs.
In addition to alumni testimonials and letters, Google reviews are another great source of information regarding the trustworthiness of a prospective rehab provider and the quality of its treatment programs. Here are some Google reviews that we handpicked because of the level of detail they provide regarding our staff and programs:
My time at the Florida House [now FHE Health] was very informative. I learned a lot about myself, about the addiction, and how to deal with it. The people who work there really care about recovery and helping people. When I was there, some problems arose and some people were not happy. Well, the owner showed up and actually talked to everybody individually to see what he could do to help. I don’t know about other places or other rehabs, but for him to show up at 2 a.m. really shows what kind of people who work there are like. That gentleman really, really cared. He actually went out on his own to get stuff for people personally. Like I said, the staff really care … I highly recommend FHE for anyone who has a substance problem, whether it be alcohol or drugs or even mental issues. I was glad to experience it. It’s good to know that there’s a place like that to go for help. I made a lot of friends at Florida House [now FHE Health]: Janet, Matt, Kyle, Jim, Dana, Sherief, everyone. I will definitely miss them all, but I’m glad to know that they’re there if I need them. If you have a problem and you’re looking for a place to go, this is definitely the place. Thank you everyone at FHE Health for a life-changing experience, and God bless you all. Jeff G.
The Florida House [now FHE Health] took me from living in my car and hopeless, with no insurance or a penny to my name, and with love and compassion allowed me to go through detox, residential treatment, and PHP and IOP. Without a doubt, I was dying when I walked in at 164 lbs. With all the guilt and shame that I carried, you would think I would have weighed a ton … what I learned from the wonderful therapists is that guilt and shame and of course my enormous ego were the problem— the using, but a symptom. Today, because of FHE Health’s compassion allowing me the time to heal physically mentally and spiritually, I am a healthy, happy man. My children thank you, and as for myself, words couldn’t begin to describe my gratitude. If FHE Health can help me get my life back on track, they can help anyone!Mike C.
Florida House [now FHE Health] was where my journey in sobriety began, and continues to be an essential part of my recovery today. I’ve been to other treatment centers as a patient and as a visitor, and the genuine love and support from the entire staff at Florida House is unparalleled. Beyond the treatment period, FHE Health continues to provide for their patients through an AMAZING alumni program. From my personal experience, getting out of treatment would have been a lot more difficult if it weren’t for the weekly alumni meetings where I could find familiar and always friendly faces. The alumni program offers so many opportunities to be of service, which is a key component of long-term sobriety, and I am extremely grateful to be able to give back to such an amazing treatment facility.Heidi W.
Florida House Experience [now FHE Health] has saved my life!!! They are an excellent team of doctors and staff that truly care!! Neuro team is the best, and so is my therapist— each one of them!! Thanks to my husband for helping me get this help I have needed for 17 years. Thanks to my family and friends for such a great support system. My son is going to have his mother back!! I am truly a different person and I love myself. No, life won’t be easy but It never really was. I have more to work on, and I am excited to see what God has in store for me. I LOVE FLORIDA HOUSE EXPERIENCE!!Misty O.
What a friend says on Facebook can mean the difference between someone getting help and not getting help for a mental health problem. That’s why we love that our alumni like to leave positive reviews on Facebook, like these ones:
Can’t get much better than what the Florida House [now FHE Health] has to offer. I’ve seen it over and over again— people reclaiming their lives. Caring, compassionate people doing their jobs and giving of themselves to others.Robert A.
One of the only places I know that goes to great lengths in doing things the right way. This is a very tough business, with very sick clientele. I know because I was/am one of them, and I spend time with people struggling every day. Kudos to the brave people who are willing to do what it takes for patients to get well. It’s not easy doing everything that’s so unnatural to us and what we don’t want to do. And bravo to the owner who continues to seek top medical staff and put cutting-edge treatment opportunities and new facilities in place. It sure HAS changed since I went there in 2010, but change is a good thing and I’m proud of them.Meg M.
When I first came to Florida House [now FHE Health], I was broken, lost and afraid. In my 20 years of using, I’ve never been to a treatment center or detox— I always tried to get clean on my own… I finally realized no one is going to keep me clean but me. With the help of the therapists and the alumni team, I finally came to the realization that they do want the best for me as long as I put in the footwork. They are still there for me every step of the way, and I have over 18 months clean with help from The Florida House [now FHE Health] and the alumni team, along with working a 12- step program and holding myself accountable. I can’t thank them enough from the bottom of my heart that I am still alive and am able to be the woman, mother, and friend that I was always meant to be. I fought for my sobriety, and I’ll fight to make sure they keep the reputation of being one of the best treatment centers in southern Florida. If you’re still struggling, reach out— they’ll help if you’re willing to be helped.Dawn R.
In addition to Google and Facebook, Yelp is another great source of information about prospective rehab providers. Here’s what some of our patients and family members have to say there:
This place not only saved my life; it also gave me one worth living. The therapists taught me to finally take responsibility for my life, and provided me with knowledge that helped me upon leaving. The alumni program I was able to connect with when I got out became a second family for me and connected me with friends unlike any I’ve ever had before. Today I work for The Florida House alumni department. It’s a job that is beyond rewarding. They helped me, and now I get to give it back. I just celebrated three years sober without a drink or drug, and owe it all to them for teaching me that it’s all in the action. Now I get to help others, and what a gift it is. I wanted my life back, and what I got was a new one better than any I could’ve imagined.Ryan W.
Almost four years ago, my younger sister went down to Florida House [now FHE Health]— and I’ve never been as thankful for a place like I am for there. I am proud to say my sister has been able to stay sober and mature in ways I never thought I’d see. Before she went to Florida House [now FHE Health], she was resentful and absent, and her self-destructive behavior made me fearful for her and her wellbeing. FHE Health taught her a sense of independence she never had. I know it was tough for her, and she had to do a lot of work on herself, but FHE Health was there to give her the tools she needed to be confident and successful even when she left the program. I continue to be impressed by their active alumni community. The network and support system my sister has is closer than a family to her. They are there for each other through everything. From helping each other to move, to passing on furniture when it’s no longer needed, it is a community that supports each other and cherishes the pillars of service. Thank you, FHE Health. The future was uncertain when my sister left for Florida, but I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. I have a sister who is there for me in ways she never could be before, and I will be eternally grateful and proud of everything she has done to get here.Jenny L.
