DEERFIELD BEACH, FL, AUGUST 28th, 2015
FHE Health (FHE) Alumni worked with Kids in Distress (KID) this Friday, August 28th, to assist with the maintenance of their main campus located in Broward County.
Kids In Distress works with Broward County’s children to place them in foster homes, give them clothing, school supplies, mentoring and tutoring. The organization works with kids from all over the south Florida area, including Palm Beach County, supplying the area with community based programs such as prevention, intervention, family counseling and educational programs. KID also provides programs for preschool and aftercare school programs.
FHE Health Alumni is a community of individuals that have graduated from FHE Health drug and alcohol program. The group works with different organizations once a month, giving back to their community and performing altruistic acts of service. This month’s service was helping KID. From 9am to 1pm the alumni worked at KID’s 5-acre Leo Goodwin Foundation Campus helping to pick up, spruce up, and clean up the facility, keeping it beautiful.
Participating in community service a few times a month is a part of the bigger picture of long-term recovery for the Alumni of FHE. Service activities help those who participate in them stay connected and create a sense of self-esteem; propelling them forward and helping them get better. Community service is not only a way to give back to help make South Florida better, but also a way for participants to feel better about themselves.
