An Essential Guide to Private Alcohol Detox

An Essential Guide to Alcohol Private Detox

There are lots of myths, misconceptions, and stigmas when it comes to detox and rehab treatments. And while most of these aren’t true, there are some innate differences between public detox treatments and executive detox facilities, sometimes referred to as luxury treatment centers. When it comes to alcohol detox, safety is of the utmost importance. You’ll need a treatment center that is prepared to help you through the physical alcohol detox process as well as set you up for a successful sober life with healthier coping mechanisms and tools for life. We’ve compiled this guide to private alcohol detox to help you better understand your options and see how FHE Health’s programs can help.

What Is Private Alcohol Detox?

The term private alcohol detox can be used to refer to a treatment center that isn’t publicly funded or a luxury rehab center. In the same way that there are public and private schools, there are public and private alcohol detox centers. Public detox facilities may have lower price tags, with some even offering free treatment, but they often have waitlists and may not be as comprehensive in their other treatment options. Private detox centers are privately funded, which means they may be pricier. However, these centers also often have extra perks and amenities, such as pools, fitness centers, more therapy program offerings and home-like amenities.

How Is Private Alcohol Detox Different From Public Treatment Options?

The major difference between private alcohol detox and public treatment options is funding. Public alcohol detox centers get their funding from taxpayers and other public funds. These facilities are also often nonprofit centers, which gives them some tax advantages. Private alcohol detox centers get funds from nonpublic sources, which could include donations, alumni donors and the fees clients pay for treatment. These facilities may also be more likely to be for-profit entities.

When it comes to the daily setup and facility, there can also be a difference in what public and private alcohol detox centers look like. Private facilities are often located in areas set away from the hustle and bustle of the city and may have campuses spanning many acres. They often also create their facility with an extra level of privacy in mind, such as naming the center something that doesn’t immediately indicate that it is a treatment facility. Other aspects such as trees and hedges in the landscaping to shelter clients from being seen by people walking or driving may be present. Some luxury facilities may also have clients sign nondisclosure agreements so they can’t provide information on other notable residents who may have been at the center at the same time.

Private Alcohol Detox Options

For those looking into alcohol detox, privacy is often of the utmost importance. Luxury detox centers offer the same level of privacy as other facilities, and they all have to follow the HIPAA guidelines as far as protecting your personal information and mental and physical health status. In most cases, no one needs to know that you are going through alcohol detox treatment unless you want them to. This includes family members, friends and employers. In most cases, you will be able to take FMLA to attend a detox program, and your employer isn’t required to know why you need FMLA or what the official diagnosis is to be able to grant it. If you have questions about your privacy during alcohol detox or how to protect your job while you go to treatment, our representatives at FHE Health can help you better understand how these issues are dealt with and what you do and do not have to do.

What to Look for in Private Alcohol Rehab

Whether you’re just starting to consider alcohol rehab or you’re ready to make that first step and actually walk through the doors, it’s important to carefully consider your alcohol detox and rehab options. Here are a few main things to look for in a luxury alcohol treatment center:

  • Privacy: Any treatment facility you choose should be focused on protecting your privacy and the privacy of the other clients. Gated entrances, nondisclosure agreements and clearly explained privacy policies are all good signs that the center is taking privacy concerns seriously.
  • Upscale accommodations: While detox and rehab isn’t going to be an entirely comfortable experience no matter how fancy the center is, finding a facility that offers that extra hospitality touch can make a difference in your stay. Luxury treatment centers may have private furnished rooms to make them feel like home, and many offer dining options that are on par with what you would find in an upscale restaurant. Amenities such as walking paths, exercise and yoga classes, a pool, a spa and gardens are also all things to look for.
  • Experienced, trained staff. Your accommodations are important, but the point of your rehab stay is to detox off of alcohol and start learning how to live a sober life. To do that, the treatment center must have experienced and properly credentialed staff. Depending on your needs and what kind of treatment you are looking for, you’ll want to find out what the center offers. Some facilities stick to traditional 12-step programs, while others may have professionals experienced in cognitive behavioral therapy and other techniques to help you learn how to better deal with stressors and triggers and live a healthier life. You may also want to check if the center has the proper staff and experience to diagnose and treat other mental health conditions that are often co-occurring with alcohol abuse.

Regardless of what you’re looking for in a treatment center, seeking out alcohol detox is the first and arguably most important step in moving toward a better life, and it shouldn’t be hindered by privacy or financial concerns. While it may seem like a private alcohol detox is out of your budget, many of these private facilities have scholarships or other types of aid to help you afford treatment.
