Tyrone Smith
National Outreach Liaison
Tyrone Smith serves first responders in the state of New Jersey, by providing education about treatment options for those with substance use and/or mental health challenges. He is a retired firefighter himself, having worked 30 years with the Paterson Fire Department in New Jersey, and he has been in recovery more than 18 years.
Tyrone has more than 18 years of experience in the behavioral health field. As a peer coordinator for the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (FMBA), an organization with 5000 members and family members, Tyrone regularly helps first responder families find quality care. He is passionate about this work, because it allows him to help others and serve. He says that “you only can keep what you have by giving it away,” and this strengthens his own long-term recovery.
