Adult Broward county rehab drug courts employ a program designed to reduce drug use relapse and criminal recidivism among defendants and offenders through risk and needs assessment, judicial interaction, monitoring and supervision, graduated sanctions and incentives, treatment and various rehabilitation services.
Juvenile Broward county rehab drug courts apply a similar program model that is tailored to the needs of juvenile offenders. These programs provide youth and their families with counseling, education and other services to: promote immediate intervention, treatment and structure; improve level of functioning; address problems that may contribute to drug use; build skills that increase their ability to lead drug-and crime-free lives; strengthen the family’s capacity to offer structure and guidance; and promote accountability for all involved.
Family Broward county rehab drug courts emphasize treatment for parents with substance use disorders to aid in the reunification and stabilization of families affected by parental drug use. These programs apply the adult drug court model to cases entering the child welfare system that include allegations of child abuse or neglect in which substance abuse is identified as a contributing factor.
Broward County Rehab & Drug Courts
Broward County’s Drug Court is the third oldest drug court in the nation, created in 1991, and the Drug Court Treatment Division serves close to 800 clients daily. The Drug Court Treatment Division has two programs providing diversion from jail or prison for persons with substance related conditions. The original Pre-Trial Intervention Program was designed as an alternative to traditional incarceration for first time, non-violent criminal offenders who are charged with the purchase or possession of a controlled substance and/or other substance abuse related offense. The grant funded Diversionary Treatment Program (DTP) was designed to divert adjudicated felons with substance related conditions from returning to prison. Both programs are a minimum of one-year of treatment with the goal of breaking the cycle of addiction and criminal justice involvement by using a variety of individualized treatment services to restore the participant as a productive member of society. Drug courts are helping thousands of South Floridians get the Broward county rehab treatment services they need and become productive members of society.
