Updated May 16, 2024 – FHE Health Has Received Another Top Workplace Award!
FHE Health has earned the honor of “Top Workplace” for an eighth year, according to the South Florida newspaper Sun Sentinel.
As in previous years, the 2023 award means that FHE scored high marks on a survey measuring employee satisfaction and qualities like a positive work environment and competitive wages and benefits. Why Is the “Top Workplace” Award Such an Honor?
Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Beau A. Nelson, DBH, LCSW, is representing FHE at the May 7 award ceremony, where he will receive the “2023 Top Workplace Award” on FHE’s behalf.
“It is a privilege for FHE Health to be recognized for the 2023 Top Workplace Award for the eighth time,” he said. “Voted on by our employees, this award affirms that we are taking care of our most valuable resource—our people. We will continue to work hard to provide a great place for our team to grow and work.”
FHE has received the same award in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022—the notable exception being 2018, when an especially bad hurricane prevented FHE’s employees from participating in the survey.
More About the Survey and Criteria for the Award
Director of Human Resources Barbara Dunkiel shared more background about why this eighth annual award is an honor:
Every year Sun Sentinel partners with the third party Energage to conduct a survey of more than two million employees nationwide. This is not an informal survey—it’s an in-depth, scientifically based look at key metrics gauging employee satisfaction. The fact that FHE has consistently scored high on this survey for seven years is a big deal, because it reflects a company culture that values employees and wants them to feel valued and happy in their jobs.
What Defines Employee Job Satisfaction at a “Top Workplace” Like FHE?
Job satisfaction is the level of contentment employees feel about their job and their degree of engagement. Dunkiel said this is measured by the degree to which employees are motivated, feel passionate about their jobs, and are committed to the organization’s financial growth and success. When employees are happy or content, “that creates a positive work environment for themselves and others, including the patients in our care,” Dunkiel noted. “It also means lower staff turnover, higher productivity, and reduced company costs.”
What Survey Answers Revealed About Employees’ Experiences at FHE
What did survey answers reveal about employees’ experiences at FHE? Some of the themes included:
- Work-life balance
- A positive work environment
- Feeling appreciated in one’s job
- A sense of direction and meaning
- Satisfaction with leadership
No workplace is perfect. At its core, the annual Energage survey is an opportunity to get detailed and uncensored feedback from employees about their experience at FHE—”so we can know what’s working well and what could use improvement,” Dunkiel said. “The fact that in that process FHE has won ‘Top Workplace’ for an eighth year helps us know we’re doing a lot of things right, and that’s encouraging.”
