Famous hip-hop producer reveals how addiction almost stole the music
As producer for such powerhouse musicians such as Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott, Timbaland became caught up in a cycle of pills and drugs that threatened to destroy his career.
Recently, even more details about how his addictions wreaked havoc were revealed in a Complex Blueprint video interview.
“My fingers didn’t feel connected to the keyboard,” he said. “It felt off…once me and the music disconnect, oh no, oh no. God gave me the gift of music and that’s how God speaks to me through music, through sound.” The good news is that those dark times are behind him and, exciting new collaborations aside, he’s finally in a stable, happy frame of mind. “Right now, I’m at a peaceful level, I’m happy with myself and changing myself every day,” he added.
The legendary producer says he had a spiritual revelation that led him to kick the painkiller addiction so he could feel the love of making music again.
“Right now, I’m at a peaceful level, I’m happy with myself and changing myself every day,” he said.
