September 26th, 2015, Broward County, FL—FHE Health (FHE) Alumni and staff were busy donating and volunteering at this year’s National Recovery Month event held at Broward Quiet Waters Parks.
Every September, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance abuse issues, and celebrate the people who are recovered from addiction. Communities across the country are planning their Recovery Month events, bringing people together to share real life experiences about the power of recovery. States and cities all over America are issuing Recovery Month proclamations to bring public attention to and celebrate these efforts. Not only that people across the country keep coming forward to share their stories.
This year is the 26th anniversary for National Recovery Month and is the 15th event for Broward County.
From 11 am to 4pm on Saturday, FHE Health was responsible for donating and distributing beverages to the near 1,000 attendees, while alumni volunteered to set up, clean up, and help out wherever they are needed. The alumni are an important part of Broward County’s recovery month event because they show that recovery does work. They will be there not only in the spirit of recovery performing service work, they will also be celebrating their own successes in sobriety with the place that helped them get better.
FHE Health (FHE) community outreach team was also present at the Recovery Day event, raising awareness about addiction and educating on the latest recovery happenings and drug trends in South Florida.
The event was filled with entertainment, awards, inspiration, and is family friendly. FHE Health is proud to be a part of such an event. As a place for people with substance abuse issues to get better, attending and donating time and energy to events like this one not only furthers the cause, it also helps the community.
