Shawn Wilson
National Outreach Liaison
FHE Health has a new national outreach liaison! Shawn Wilson is serving as a treatment resource to first responder and veteran communities in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri, where he also educates medical and clinical providers about specialized treatment for the same population. Shawn has served in the U.S. Army more than 20 years and recently completed a 15-year career as a law enforcement patrol officer. Those experiences gave him an ability to relate to and empathize with those who struggle with mental and behavioral health issues. Shawn also has training in mental health awareness and suicide prevention, substance abuse education, crisis training, and human trafficking.
Today, Shawn says his goal is to help break the stigma of asking for help among first responders and veterans. He also can speak with personal authority about the difference treatment can make. It “saved my marriage, my health, and my careers,” he said in a recent interview, and thanks to treatment, he is now able to wear “many different hats,” as “a soldier, a former police officer, a mentor, a non-profit owner, an alcoholic in years of recovery, and, most importantly, a mental health advocate.”
In his free time, Shawn enjoys serving his community by volunteering with the non-profit martial arts academy which he founded in 2010. It exists to teach victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and troubled youth how to defend themselves, regain their self-esteem, and break unhealthy cycles to achieve a safe and healthy future.
