Binge drinking has become the new normal in our society, but not just binge drinking like I knew of when I was a kid, sustained drinking for days, it is a consistent sustained drinking as quickly as possible. I remember hearing as a kid about fraternities that would make their initiants drink beer from a funnel. I had images in my mind of someone letting the beer funnel down their esophagus until the only thing that could stop it was the bile that rose in rejection. I wasn’t too far off.
Binge drinking can make you so sick that you vomit, so continuously for so long that you pass out, only to continue throwing up. Sometimes people choke on their own vomit, even while unconscious.
Alcohol and Work
The tough thing about our current society is that alcohol is becoming more and more a part of business culture. As networking becomes more and more important to succeeding in one’s career, the urge to binge drink when out with clients or while trying to keep drink for drink with your boss can be potent. But there’s no amount of career advancement that can make up for the damage that binge drinking can do to a person’s body both long term and more immediately. Binge drinking can result in long term results such as fatal liver disease, all the way to more immediately it may cause someone to be agitated, even violent. It could cause someone to go into a coma, or even cause death.
