Lose Your Mind By Peter Marinelli
So you want to think the drink or drug through? Or remember where you came from? Or keep it green? Or play the tape till the end? These are some of the one liner’s given to folks in order to help keep them sober and or clean for another day. Now I am sure they mean well when offering this, however it isn’t possible for any real alcoholic to sustain abstinence with this type of information.
Lack of Power is our dilemma is what is told to us on page 45 in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. And any real alkies will agree how true this statement is. Our experience shows that power, choice and control are no longer existent. Well one of the reasons (the main reason) is the main problem lies in the mind rather than the body. So when offering someone one of the phrases stated above, there is little chance of success. Here’s why. Who is remembering where they come from? Who is keeping it green? Who is paying the tape till the end? Who is trying to do all of this? The mind, and is not the mind the main problem? It will not see the truth.
To Illustrate, Here is Some Information Taken From the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous:
“Therefore the main problem of the alcoholic centers in his mind, rather than his body.”
“At a certain point in the drinking of every alcoholic he passes into the state where the most powerful desire to stop drinking is of absolutely no avail.”
“The almost certain consequences that follow taking even a glass of beer do not crowd into the mind to deter us.”
“We are without defense against the first drink.”
And Carl Young tells Rolland Hazard
“you have the mind of a chronic alcoholic.”
So who wants to rely on the mind to stay sober?
