Addiction treatment methods are often extremely misunderstood. Many individuals genuinely believe the false rumors and the myths that surround addiction treatment methods. Did you know that out of people who need to get treated, only 10% actually do? That is an insane number when there are so many options available. So why is nobody getting the treatment they need?
First, the stigma around addiction prevents the open discussion, or acknowledgment of a problem. Two, individuals simply do not have a good grasp on what options there are for addiction treatment methods or rehab.
Let’s take a look at the various types of treatment, how they work, and the best course of action for receiving treatment. A few methods are as follows:
- Medical Detox
- Inpatient
- Intensive Outpatient
- Family Therapy
- Holistic Rehab
We at FHE Health want to help you become the best you can be, and we have a number of state of the art treatment programs in every state waiting to go on this journey with you.
Medical Detox
Detoxification is often the first part of the process toward recovery, and it can be one of the more difficult pieces as well. A lot of the stigma surrounding medical detox is because it is a very difficult process, however, do not get me wrong, all forms of addiction treatment methods are extremely worthwhile.
When you ingest a substance, especially for longer periods of time, it will remain in your body for several days, or even up to two weeks after taking it. This period of letting the substance, whether alcohol or drugs, flush out of your body is called detox. It seems simple enough, however, this is when the harrowing withdrawal effects set in.
Symptoms of withdrawal vary from shakiness, anxiety, paranoia, hallucinvations, nausea, vomiting, or even seizures. This is just a gentle reminder of why addiction treatment methods should be administered by professionals, rather than attempting to perform them at home. That being said, there are a large number of benefits should you choose to have medical detox administered at a facility. We at FHE Health will ensure that you have as much focus as you need. We also may provide you with medication management should you be in need of it.
Inpatient Treatment
Inpatient treatment can largely be seen as the most intensive form of care. This is when the patient will physically reside in the location or facility while they receive services and therapies. Most of the time used in extreme cases or crises, however, inpatient is for everyone, and you will have the most individual attention that can be received here. Most likely detox will be performed here, then the individual interventions will follow.
Inpatient treatment is extremely beneficial because it is a way to take a break from the world. There is no chance of finding substances here, so it is a sure fire way to get clean while one is there to prepare for returning to society.
Intensive Outpatient
When you go to get your appendix removed, you will go to the hospital, have them perform the surgery on you, wake up, then go home. However, you will have a few follow up visits with doctors to discuss how you are doing and so on. Intensive outpatient is like that in this regard. It is an addiction treatment method where you are not necessarily in the facility, however you have visits with professionals who will come to you at your location. These will typically occur a few days out of the week, for several hours per day. This treatment program is great for people who cannot handle inpatient or residential, but would still benefit from a structure of treatment.
Residential
Residential is one of the more beneficial forms of treatment for those who want a safe space, and take a break from the harsh realities of the world. This is often one of the most beneficial forms of treatment, and it will be a longer period of time for individuals seeking recovery. The period of time, and length of stay varies from person to person in this area.
Family Therapy
Did you know that many individuals consider addiction to be a family disease? What does this mean? It means that addiction is a disease that is so misunderstood that family members will usually not know how to cope, and often develop poor coping mechanisms. Addiction is the number 3 most common cause of divorce among women, and 8th among men.
Along with this, many individuals believe addiction to be a hereditary disease, since children of addicts are much more likely to form an addiction themselves. All of this to say, addiction is a family disease so the whole family needs to be treated to ensure sobriety for the struggling individual. In this way, studies have shown that addiction treatment methods are far more successful if the whole family is a part of the process. It provides accountability, education for a misunderstood problem, and holistic growth for the whole family.
Holistic Addiction Rehab
Holistic addiction treatment is an addiction treatment method that utilizes alternative forms of treatment. It will take a more natural approach to treating individuals, and focuses on treating the whole self, as opposed to just the symptoms of the disease. Some ways it does this is through meditations, yoga, breathing exercises, and stretching. Holistic care wants to provide a natural avenue to recovery. It focuses on the body, mind, and spirit. We at FHE Health believe in treating the whole person, mental illnesses and all. We believe you cannot separate the mind and body.
