2023 First Responder Paws Award
We didn’t know what to expect in the way of a response when we kicked off a first-ever, nationwide contest for the First Responder Paws Therapy Dog Award, but 51 incredible dogs from around the country answered the call by taking part.

51 Dogs, 51 Life-Changing Stories
Those 51 dogs and their handlers and owners’ stories—of help and heroism in communities across America—touched and inspired us. We personally read each of your stories, highlights of which include:
- Offering solace in the aftermath of shootings, natural disasters, and other national tragedies
- Comforting the sick, the dying, the lonely, and those who care for them, in hospitals, hospices, and nursing homes
- Being present to victims of violent crimes, including women and children who have been sexually abused or trafficked
- Serving as the only one on duty at the dispatch center when the humans are sleeping or taking a break
- Overcoming traumatic events to deliver hope and care to those living with PTSD and other mental health issues
As a token of appreciation for the remarkable contributions your therapy dog has made, we are delighted to present you with this digital badge. We hope you’ll display it proudly on your dog’s website, among their other accolades, as one more testament of their (and your!) life-changing impact.
We can’t thank you enough for your good work and the many healing ways that you show up for the people who need you. If we could, we’d give each of you this award! We extend our heartfelt gratitude for entrusting us with a glimpse of your extraordinary impact. Your participation has also helped further the cause of therapy dogs everywhere, while shining a light on the need for more therapy dogs for first responders.
