Well kiddies it’s that time of year again. Where pressure, people pleasing, guilt, remorse, over spending, traffic, overcrowded stores over stuffed bellies with obscene amounts of food packed airport airlines and hotels price gauging and so much more – it’s the holiday time!
And who can’t wait for midnight madness where folks literally have trampled others to death to get a bargain.
Lost are the simple pleasures of the holidays and lost is gratitude for what’s really important, and why and what we are celebrating.
Commercials want you to believe that if you buy a new car your relationship, your life and your holiday will be wonderful and if you don’t, well you’re a loser.
Families using emotional guilt to get you to their homes which translate into many folks spending obscene amounts of money on commuting and having to spend Christmas morning in a hotel room rather than in their own home.
Therapist’s offices are packed this time of year, as those of us who call ourselves adults are suddenly in panic mode about going home to be with the family.
People pleasing looks like it took steroids, spending money you don’t have on people you don’t like to impress others who you see once a year anyway.
One can keep it simple and remember what this time of year is all about. No need to get caught up in the madness or take on others feelings and emotions. Just enjoy the time and reflect perhaps feeling so blessed to enjoy another year and be with those you want to be with and lovingly miss those who you can’t be with.
Wherever you live in the world there can be a coziness and intimacy this time of year, something words cannot describe. Breaking bread with friends and family or just that special someone, where “stuff” is not need to prove your love.
Easy Does It I say and take it in and enjoy. This life it but a vapor, and I don’t want to spend it worrying or trapped in shopping malls.
