of veterans in VA primary care with a substance use disorder also had depression, and 24.6% also had PTSD, per American Journal of Public Health (Trivedi et al., 2015).

82–93%

of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans diagnosed with a substance use disorder were also diagnosed with at least one co-occurring mental health disorder, per a peer-reviewed review (Teeters et al., 2017).

Under 1%

of veterans receive an isolated substance use disorder diagnosis with no co-occurring disorder. That is why nothing here is treated in isolation.

How we treat it

Built for service, and for what hasn’t worked before

Shatterproof FHE Health pairs trauma-focused therapy with neuroscience-based care and a peer group of veterans and first responders. Part of our team comes from those same backgrounds, and it changes what people are willing to say out loud.

After admission, each patient receives a neuroimaging scan that identifies areas of dysfunction tied to PTSD and other symptoms. For many veterans that scan is the moment the shame lifts, because it shows a verifiable medical condition rather than a character flaw. The imaging then guides treatment, letting clinicians target impaired areas with technologies few behavioral health providers offer.

Guided trauma therapy, run in longer sessions so relief comes faster than weekly scheduling allows.

From the intake process to the last minute there, everything was focused on my healing.The staff was beyond incredible and I made lifelong friends.This place literally saved my life.As first responders, we are the helpers. But even then he helpers need help sometimes.2 bedroom apartments, amazing gym, pool, grills, volleyball, cornhole..you keep your phone, you can order DoorDash and instacart. This place was nothing I ever thought a “rehab” would me. My family joked it was a resort instead.Group and individual therapy. Brain mapping and stimulation. Massages. Cupping. EMDR. Integral Breathwork. Physical fitness classes. Acupuncture. Bio chair (soundwaves). All part of your treatment plan.Furthermore, it’s been over a year and I still receive check ins from staff.
