Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Alcohol Struggles, Gets Attacked on Social Media
Chrissy Teigen recently opened up about her struggles with postpartum depression, anxiety and alcohol abuse in a Cosmopolitan interview. “I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” said the model and wife of musician John Legend.
Teigen mentioned that she has a family history of alcohol abuse, and that she is the type of person who “can’t have just one drink.” She also said that along with taking medication for postpartum depression and anxiety, “alcohol is like the least thing that helps.”
“I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober but now I get it,” said Teigen. “I have to fix myself.”
Teigen later stumbled upon a collection of posts attacking her for her struggles with alcohol and accusing her of faking her postpartum depression. Some posts even criticized her political views and how IFV played a part in building her family. She posted screenshots of the attacks, commenting with “I dunno how you can be this mean.”
In response to the social media attacks, however, Teigen has also received a flood of supportive messages from fans and fellow celebrities including Cher, actress Emmy Rossum and author Jenny Han, to name a few. “I’m sorry someone felt the need to write such cruel things and even sorrier you had to see that,” tweeted Han.
While Teigen works on distancing herself from her person and family history of alcohol abuse, healing from postpartum depression and preparing to start IVF again, she needs love, support and compassion—as does anyone going through similar struggles.
