Two PA Counselors Overdose at Addiction Facility

Two staff members at a PA addiction recovery clinic overdosed this week, shedding a light on just how pervasive the opioid epidemic has become. The individuals were working at the Freedom Ridge Recovery Lodge supervising recovering addicts when they were found unresponsive in their respective rooms. According to CNN, the counselors were found with used needles and small baggies for heroin near their bodies, the district attorney’s office said.

When asked for comment on the situation, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said:

“If anybody is wondering how bad the opioid epidemic has become, this case is a frightening example,” Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said,” according to CNN.

Initial toxicology reports show that both counselors tested positive for heroin and fentanyl. The sad reality about opioid addiction is that many people relapse and fall back into bad habits, even with the best of intentions.
